Spring has sprung and my Seed Sowing has just begun!

Spring has sprung in our garden and this year I’m determined to get some early crops started. I have read on the internet this is sometimes a risky strategy to start sowing this early in February due to there possibly being more frosts before March. However the sun is shining and I feel I have enough seed in my packets to start some off to see how they go. Its all about trial and error after all.

Today I will mostly be sowing:

Update on Vegetable Plots

Plot 1 – Root Vegetables
There are approximately 8 Autumn king carrots left in the middle of Plot 1. My chicory and other carrots have been harvested. The soil was forked over with a hand fork and raked level. I then added some multipurpose compost to the top of the bed to sow the new seeds in.

Plot 2 – Brassicas
The Spring Hero and Advantage cabbages are continuing their growth in Plot 2 and will be ready in April. I carried out a bit of maintenance to the cabbage plants by carefully removing yellowing leaves and any which have been eaten. Then I added some multipurpose compost around the base of the cabbages.

Plot 3 – Beans and Peas
My 9 broad bean (The Sutton) seedlings are growing well and my overwintering peas are tall enough to cling to the bamboo canes.
