July Vegetable Plot Report
Posted on 26. Jul, 2009 by Tracey in Veg Plot
The words of the week are Vegetable Plot Maintenance.
My Mange tout has died off and my dwarf french beans have been attacked by slugs although they are still producing beans. I’m very glad I grew the green bean variety ‘Maxi’ which hangs the beans above the leaves away from the hungry slugs. The slugs have only managed to obliterate the leaves. On an interesting note, the slugs completely left the yellow beans and leaves alone, not one was touched.
My runner beans have had 3 weeks growth now and are almost at the top of the six foot canes. I can’t wait to taste some late season runner beans.
Here are my before and after plot photos and my tomato’s:-

- Veggy Plot After 25.07.09
- Tomato’s
My tomato’s have been green now for a month, I really want one at least to turn red soon!
I’m currently growing:
- Runner Beans – White Emergo and Scarlet Emperor,
- Dwarf French Beans – Maxi and Major,
- Carrots – Chantenay and Nantes 2,
- Leeks – Bandit and Pandora,
- Potatoes – Maincrop Cara,
- Tomato – Totem F1,
- Cucumber – Crystal Lemon.

You have some great looking veggies. It looks like the tomatoes will burst red any day now. I know you can’t wait! Why does it seem like tomatoes take forever to turn red after emerging?
I enjoy reading your garden updates – keep them coming!
