How Not to Store Your Maincrop Potatoes

How Not to Store Your Maincrop Potatoes

It just shows you when I’m in holiday mode things completely slip my mind like my potatoes. I harvested them last weekend just before I went on holiday and left them in a tub open to the air, light and moisture in my mini greenhouse to dry off before I washed and checked them over for storing.

Well there they sat for my weeks holiday and I only just found them today…..

Look at the sorry state they are in, they already had scab on them but I can live with that, it slides off when you boil them.

My poor neglected potatoes have been turned green by being left out in the light. The crop is now ruined and will have to be thrown away as green potatoes are poisonous and should not be eaten.

So please learn from my mistake, dry off your spuds, check for disease, then store immediately in a dry and dark place.
