The Carrot Saga Continues…
Posted on 24. Oct, 2009 by Tracey in My Veg Plot
This Halloween some people will be lucky enough to be harvesting pumpkins and squashes, the only orange thing I’ll be harvesting is carrots.
I’ve previously written about my Carrots as being the best performers of this year and now my carrot harvest continues well into October, I’ve not known anything like it in my 3 years of growing especially as these carrots are from 3 rows of sowings of Nantes 2 and Chantenay in April.
My winter sowing of Carrot ‘Giant Red’ are also growing great in another of my raised beds and seem to have really established themselves well for the winter onslaught.
At least I have a few ideas of what to do with the harvested carrots after watching the brilliant BBC1 series – Nigel Slater’s Simple Suppers, here’s some carrot recipes: Nigels Adaptable Bean Soup and Carrot and Coriander Fritters.

Its been a strange year weather wise, particularly for East Anglia. Unbelieviably I still have chillies growing outside and its nearly November!
Like you, carrots (and chillies) have been by far my best performer this year, my brassicas have hardly produced anything and my tomatoes all got blight!
