Winter Vegetable Seedlings Progress Report

Winter Vegetable Seedlings Progress Report

Posted on 31. Oct, 2009 by Tracey in My Veg Plot

Its been 9 weeks now, so lets check up on how my Winter Vegetable Seedlings are growing…

As you can see my winter vegetable plants in this plot are growing very well. Unfortunately a few pests have moved in my other plot of winter seedlings of Kale, Cabbage and Mustard Greens, my mustard greens have been decimated by tiny green and brown caterpillars and my japanese kale destroyed by baby slugs. Meanwhile my spring pointy cabbage has so far survived. Fingers crossed!

These are great seedlings. Will these last through the winter?

    Hi Sylvana,

The Pak Choi, Fennel and Endive I expect to harvest November to December and the carrots will survive the winter to be harvested next year. Hopefully I won’t get any more trouble with slugs and caterpillars (fingers crossed) and my spring cabbage plants should last through winter and give me some leaves to harvest in May-June.

    Thanks
    Tracey

Sorry to hear about the untimely demise of your mustard and Japanese kale :-/ Some of mine has suffered a similar fate, but am hoping the remainder will keep going…

Next week I’m sowing garlic and broad beans and I’m really excited about that… yes I know I’m sad! :-)
