Autumn Romanesco Cauliflower ‘Ottobrino’ – Another Surprise

Autumn Romanesco Cauliflower ‘Ottobrino’ – Another Surprise

The latest vegetable to catch me by surprise was the Autumn Romanesco Cauliflower. I remember buying a packet of seeds from the Real Seed Company last year and again I’ve forgotten I sowed them.

This cauliflower is completely out of season, according to the sowing chart, you sow it in April to June and harvest in October to December hence the word ‘Autumn’ in the seed title. However somehow it missed its harvest date in Autumn and is producing its cauliflower heads now in April.

Although having read the description on Real Seeds it does say most of these type of cauliflowers are Spring maturing so maybe this one reverted back for some reason. Whatever the reason, its a lovely vegetable to see growing in the plot during the hunger gap from December to May.

This yellowy green tinged cauliflower is beginning to forms its characteristic spiral shape and I have four of these lovelies which will be ready to harvest (I’m guessing) about the end of April to May.

Another surprise vegetable in the plot, but I’m beginning to love these types of surprises.
