This guide shows you how to grow your own lettuce in seed trays, pots or in a raised bed.What Month do I Sow?: April to July
Where do I Sow?

- Raised Beds,
- Pots and Hanging Baskets.
What Varieties do I Choose?
Cut and Come Again or Loose Lettuce Leaf Varieties are perfect for growing in trays and pots like:
- Salad Bowl,
- Mixed Salad Leaves
- Belize,
- Oakleaf,
- Fristina
Germination Rate:
Lettuce will take 2 to 5 days to germinate and you will see tiny leaves appearing. Lettuce leaves will take 4 to 7 weeks to grow.
You will need:
- Seed Tray or Windowsill Propagator, Pots or Raised Bed.
- Multi-purpose or potting compost,
- Watering can,
- A Plant Label.
Instructions:
- Refer to your own seed packet or take these instructions as a guide only.
- Fill the seed tray, pots or raised bed with multi-purpose or potting compost.
- Water the compost lightly.
- Open the seed packet and scatter the seeds over the surface of the soil.
- Cover the seed with a sprinkling of compost.
- Water the compost well.
- Label and place in a mini greenhouse, on a windowsill or leave open in a raised bed.
- The seeds should not need watering again until they appear above the soil as seedlings. Please do check on the soil each week especially if the seeds are in full sunlight, if it does look really dry, then water it.

Tips on Growing:
Seeds Trays and pots dry out quickly, so please remember to check whether your lettuce needs watering.
Harvest Months: May to September. Harvest 4-7 weeks after sowing.
How to Harvest:
Cut the loose leaves with scissors at the base of the plant, level with the surface of the soil. The loose leaf lettuce will then eventually grow again. More seed can be sown in amongst the leaves for a continuous supply of lettuce.
