Growing Butternut Squash

Butternut squash is a type of winter squash with a sweet and nutty flavour like sweet potatoes. It has buttery orange flesh and can be stored for 1 to 3 months in a cool dry well ventilated place.

Growing Butternut Squash from Seed

  • Sowed 8th March 2008,
  • 16 weeks – Planted out into Plot 3 on 29th June 2008,
  • 20 weeks – Flowering on 27th July 2008,
  • 22 weeks – Fruiting on 3rd August 2008.
  • Estimated Harvesting Date: Leave on vine until first frost wait until squash are 10″ before picking .
